Sri Lanka Parliament Speaker W.J.M Lokubndara stressed that it is his duty to protect the privileges of parliamentary staff as the Speaker.

The Speaker made this special statement following a tense situation that took place in the Parliament this morning due to an incident related to its staff.

According to the sources in Parliament an unruly incident had taken place on a parliamentary staff member and the main opposition United National Party had informed the Speaker regarding the incident.

Following the Speaker’s statement some government Ministers were seen going up to the Speaker’s chair and discussing, sources said.

However, following the disruption the Speaker requested the media not to report the alleged incident as he would carry a complete probe into the episode.
